Architects

  • Develop evidence-informed briefs based on embodied workshops with schools, stakeholders, and students.
  • Advise on learning environments in relation to different pedagogical practices.
  • Provide guidance on spatial layouts to ensure flexibility, multi-functionality, and an enhanced learning experience.
  • Propose strategies to maximise space and create a variety of spaces to support diverse learning needs and pedagogies.
  • Integrate principles of embodied learning into spatial design.
  • Advise on materials, finishes, furniture, and suppliers, drawing on research in ergonomics and sustainable solutions to support user well-being.
  • Support educators through guidance and workshops on effectively using new environments to enhance teaching practice.
  • Conduct post-occupancy evaluations to assess spatial performance and produce reports with key insights and recommendations for future projects.

· We specialise in embodied learning and innovative learning environments, providing spatial solutions grounded in research and evidence.

·  We are specialists in learning environments, supported by research and experience in both pedagogical and architectural practice. This enables us to understand the challenges and constraints of each and provide effective, integrated solutions for both architects and educators.

·  We combine expertise in research methodologies and user engagement, enabling robust data collection through embodied workshops, interviews, and surveys. This informs clear user needs and leads to relevant design solutions.

·  Poorly designed environments can lead to teacher frustration and increased student disruption, often resulting in underused spaces that become ad hoc storage areas—ultimately reflecting poorly on design performance and post-occupancy success.

We work alongside architects and designers throughout the project lifecycle:

Early Stages – RIBA Stages 0–1

  • Facilitate embodied workshops and focus groups to understand users’ spatial needs and lived experiences.
  • Analyse data and produce reports and design briefs outlining spatial requirements and pedagogical alignment.

Concept Design – RIBA Stages 2–3

  • Develop design proposals, including spatial layouts, interior design solutions, furniture concepts, colour schemes and mood boards for both indoor and outdoor learning environments.
  • Develop lighting design, and wayfinding strategies to support in defining zones of learning.

Design Development – RIBA Stages 4–5

  • Liaise and coordinate with project teams to ensure the school’s spatial needs are effectively delivered.
  • Provide expert guidance on furniture, materials, and finishes to ensure functionality, durability, and long-term suitability.

Post-Occupancy – RIBA Stages 6–7

  • Conduct post-occupancy evaluations to assess spatial performance and produce reports with key insights and recommendations for future projects.
  • Support educators through workshops and training on using new learning environments, including strategies for adapting pedagogical practice and lesson planning.
