Design for Embodied Learning
We design learning environments that support embodied learning — spaces that encourage movement, interaction, exploration, and engagement. Rather than treating learning as passive activity, we create environments that invite students to actively participate through their bodies, senses, and social interactions.
Our spaces are designed to help students feel comfortable, motivated, and engaged. We create diverse and flexible learning environments that respond to different learners’ spatial needs, incorporating five types of spaces informed by research.

What is Embodied Learning?
Embodied learning is based on the understanding that learning happens through the connection between mind and body. Cognitive development is shaped by movement, sensory experience, and interaction with the surrounding environment.
Research in neuroscience and education shows that perception, and understanding are deeply linked to bodily experience. Learning is not only something that happens “in the mind”; it is influenced by how we move, interact, explore, and physically engage with the world around us.

Why Does It Matter?
Traditional classroom environments often support only a limited range of learning activities. Restricted space and fixed layouts can reduce opportunities for movement, making learning experiences more static and limiting student engagement.
Research in neuroscience and learning sciences shows that cognition is closely connected to bodily action and sensory experience. The way students move, interact, and engage with their environment influences how they perceive, process, and retain knowledge.
Our approach draws on research in learning sciences, spatial design, and educational practice to create environments that support both cognitive and physical wellbeing. By designing for embodied learning, we create educational spaces that are more inclusive, adaptable, and responsive to diverse learner needs.
Spaces that support movement, flexibility, and choice can enhance engagement, participation, comfort, and the overall learning experience.

How can spaces support embodied learning?
We work closely with students, educators, and schools to understand how learning happens in practice. Through research-led design, we design environments that support a variety of learning modes — from collaboration and discussion to teacher centred, reflective, and independent learning.
Our work goes beyond designing physical spaces. We also help educators understand how to use and adapt these environments within teaching practice, ensuring that the spaces become meaningful tools for learning rather than simply redesigned classrooms that do not match the teaching methods.
By integrating research findings, our understanding of pedagogy and spatial design, we create learning environments that enable students to actively engage with their learning through body, and senses alternating between the digital and physical space.

Flexibility
Our research shows that students experience spaces differently. What helps one student focus and learn may not work for another, what one student finds comfortable, might not be for another learner. Schools often face the challenge of supporting diverse learning needs within limited space and resources.
We design flexible learning environments that can adapt to different learning activities, teaching styles, and student preferences. Flexibility, however, should not create additional workload for teachers. Our approach focuses on creating spaces that are easy to use, adaptable, and practical within everyday school life. Through thoughtful spatial planning and smart design solutions, we provide teachers and learners with accessible options that support a wide range of learner needs.



Spaciousness
Spaciousness is essential in supporting movement, interaction, and embodied learning. However, larger spaces are not always the most effective solution. Open halls and oversized environments can sometimes feel overwhelming or intimidating for students.
We design spaces with the appropriate sense of spaciousness for different learning activities and age groups. Our approach carefully considers circulation, visibility, safeguarding, and comfort, ensuring that both students and teachers feel comfortable in the space.



Connection to Nature and the Outdoors
Nature offers rich sensory experiences that support exploration, wellbeing, creativity, and embodied learning. Outdoor environments encourage movement, curiosity, and interaction with the physical world.
We view outdoor spaces as an extension of the learning environment rather than separate recreational areas. Our designs integrate landscapes, play, and outdoor learning opportunities that support free exploration, guided activities, and task-oriented learning. Through research-informed design, we ensure that outdoor spaces actively enhance embodied learning and connected to educational goals.



Embodied Learning centres
We design Embodied Learning Centres that encourage students to learn through movement, sensory engagement, exploration, and interaction with the physical world.
These environments provide opportunities for students to engage with manipulatives, natural materials, and hands-on learning experiences that help introduce, reinforce, and deepen understanding of concepts taught as part of the curriculum. By engaging the senses and supporting active exploration, these spaces foster curiosity, creativity, and meaningful learning experiences.



Child Choice and Spatial Awareness
Supporting student autonomy is an important part of preparing learners for the future. Spaces can play a significant role in developing independence, decision-making, and critical thinking skills.
We design environments that encourage students to make choices about how and where they learn. By offering a variety of learning settings and levels of interaction, students gradually build confidence, spatial awareness, and ownership of their learning experience. We also work closely with educators to help them integrate these environments into teaching practices in meaningful ways to support learners in building autonomy.
Integration of Digital Technology
Digital technology is an essential part of contemporary learning environments and 21st-century education. We integrate technology into the design process from the beginning, ensuring that infrastructure and spatial planning support digital learning needs.
Our spaces are designed to accommodate digital learning across the entire school environment — within classrooms, shared learning spaces, indoor and outdoor areas, and circulation spaces that are often overlooked. This approach allows technology to become seamlessly integrated into every learning space rather than treated as an afterthought.
